2010-03-30 10:30
Project:
Cairo North

This garden has been rehabilitated in the framework of the project “Poverty Alleviation and Environmental Enhancement in Northern Cairo”. The event will be held in the Sami el Baroudi School in the Abou Douma area. The opening has been promoted and organized by COSPE in partnership with Ama Arab Environment Company and Association for the Protection of the Environment, together with the actors of the area. The rehabilitation has been done in the framework of the project co-funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Italian Cooperation) and with the contribution of the local community. The strategy of the project focuses on community networks and their ownership, as citizens, for the management of their territory. These networks are meant as informal structures where different actors (public, private, organised civil society) are willing to actively participate in the solution of local problems and to share responsibilities with the concerned authorities. The ownership of these processes is to be considered the base of the sustainability of the intervention. All citizens represented are involved in an exercise of social responsibility towards the territory and specifically towards solid waste management. At the opening, children will perform a play titled “The Change”, and afterwards speeches will be given by local authorities and some of those responsible for the project. COSPE Profile in Brief: COSPE is an Italian NGO which was founded in 1983 in Florence, with the aim to overcome conditions of poverty and social injustice around the world.
