On Friday, June 11, 10am–7pm, the district of Sharabeya hosted another environmental campaign, moving forward in the upgrading process of the Mubarak Garden. The event was organised by COSPE’s Northern Cairo Project in collaboration with different actors from the local community, and represented a contribution to the World Environment Day 2010 worldwide activities. Besides local Project partners, the event was organised under the auspices of the Sharabeya District Manager, and with the special participation and contribution of the volunteers from the Hulwa Ya Balady group.

The activities carried out included street sweeping, cleaning of the garden, vegetation planting, painting of the garden wall and surrounding iron fence, as well as an environmental seminar. The initiative was aimed at spreading awareness of the environment and enhancing public action through the participation of the local community in the development of their surrounding area.

Many citizens gave their contribution during the environmental day and participated in the longer-term actions of preserving the garden and maintaining the cleanliness of the area, in a common effort towards the improvement of the living standards in this Northern Cairo district.
